Minimum wage laws vary greatly from state to state, and can even vary from industry to industry. No state can pay less than the federal minimum wage, but states can, and many do, pay more.

I was wondering the same thing. i work at a golf course in Michigan where they pay me in tipped wages of $3.55/hour. Sometimes, when scheduling, our boss requires us to do work without possibility of being tipped. Is there a law against me, and my fellow employees to getting un-tipped wages during these periods?

Thanks LL! :)

Reference to the store search. I learned much but I still must know why I must submit to the check in the first place. Where is there legal athority to detain me at all, a store employee not a law enforcement. If what you say is true then the store must have empowerment, police powers, somewhere on their side. If I refuse to submit to the check and continue to walk any attempt to physically detain me then I will protect myself from agressive behavior, that must be my legal right. And yes you are 100 per cent correct I will take my business else where but I do get offended easily. Just because I do not shop lift does not mean that I should be happily search. Thank you for clarifying this.

Thank you for answering my question. I will take your advice and discuss matter this with my employer.

You and the rest of the QD Now podcasters do amazing work! I look forward to listening to more great podcasts. Please don't let Grammar Girl read the last sentence, I suspect there is something wrong with "Looking forward to listening." :)
